Happy Mother’s Day and Guest Post for Add a Tree

My dear friend Claire Woolley at the non-profit Add a Tree recently gave me the opportunity to write a guest blog, which I just realized was published today. I particularly like the focus of Add a Tree the number of trees in urban areas, so I’m honored to write a blog for them.

The guest blog is entitled Travels with my family, a tree story, which happens to be about enchanting adventures with my mother and kids, and my conversion to an environmental advocate.

The timing for the guest blog turned out to be perfect for mother’s day! Hope all you fellow mothers had a wonderful day!

Just want to share a link to a guest blog that I did for the Chicago non-profit Add a Tree. My post is called Travels with my Family, a Tree Story, which happens to be a good mother’s day blog coincidentally.
    Have a great week!

  2. I enjoyed your personal story, Karen. I do think it’s encouraging to realize that as moms (and grandmothers) we can influence the next generation to take an active interest in caring for our natural world. And Add a Tree is a very interesting non-profit! 🙂

    1. Thank you Debra. I learned to appreciate the natural world and culture from my parents, so I definitely share your belief that a love of nature is something we can expand as parents and grandparents. I consider our almost yearly trips to national parks to be one of the most important gifts that I give to my children. They seem to appreciate our enchanting adventures as well. Karen

    1. Add a Tree is an organization that just started recently, and I’m trying to support it in any way I can, because I used to work with the founder on green business projects. I didn’t know you’re a Chicagoan. I lived in the city for many years and still love it. My kids and their Dad prefer the suburban life, so I try to work and play in the city when I get the opportunity. Thanks for stopping by!

  3. I’m currently in Edgewater, right on the lake. Love my view, but miss being in the gold coast, where I used to live. I haven’t been very involved in any environmental organizations but feel the need to do so. I’ll be checking out the Green Festival this weekend, maybe that’ll get me going. Between work and writing it’s hard to find the time. I thought I was already following your blog, but now realize you have two…:) Anyway, I’m signed up now.

    1. The lake is so beautiful. I lived in the South Loop, Lakeview and Lincoln Square at different times. I liked each neighborhood, but I probably liked Lincoln Square the most. I’m not sure if I’ll be going to the green festival this year. I went last year and enjoyed it. Have a great time!
